You are very busy at work these days. And sadly that means no time for shopping – at least not when stores are open.
So you’ve been online at odd hours looking at the new collections. Some things are easy to buy online: Shoes, Accessories, Make-Up, etc.
But clothes are all about the fit, so you need to see them in person.

You need to check out the Worth Collection.
It’s perfect for working women – especially ones with hectic schedules. Having been around since 1991, The Worth Collection has ironed out the details to make shopping effortless.

Convenience is the first thing the Worth Collection tackled. You shop when it’s right for you. Once a new collection is introduced (4 times a year), a Worth Representative sets up a trunk show for clients to view the new line. You make an appointment with your Rep at a time that works into your schedule – before work, after work, on your lunch hour, whenever.

Second, you’ll get personal attention. No waiting to find a salesperson that is working with other busy women trying to cram shopping into their lunch hour. And your rep will also help you with overall looks. It’s like having a stylists/personal shopper in one.

And finally when it comes to quality, one turn through a Worth Collection trunk show and you’ll know that these clothes are the highest materials and fit. The attention the designers pay to style detailing (buttons, stitching, etc) is a major reason for Worth’s growing popularity. It’s all so well thought out.

Then after you find the looks you love, you place the order in your size – Worth carries sizes 0 – 20, plus Petites 0 – 14. There is no wondering if your size will be available, because it always is attainable. Then in two to four weeks, you new looks arrive.

Why? Because Worth understands that you work long hours, and lunch time is way too rushed for you to go to a store. The weekends, well those are for catch-up and giving much needed attention to a boyfriend or husband or yourself.

My Worth Representative in Chicago is Beth Prew – email her bprew@worthcollection.com to view the current collection.

Wishes & Dreams at Wax Lounge

February 3rd, 2010 by SocialStylists No comments »

Even in the blistering cold last week Chicago came out to support three emerging designers at a totally rockin’ show – Champagne Wishes & Fashion Dreams.
Down the gangway and inside Wax Lounge on Lincoln and Webster, the music blared and the signature drink of sparkling wine was flowing – the event was sponsored by Martini & Rossi. The vibe was a mix of excitement and anticipation to see some great new designers strut their stuff…or rather have the models do it.

Designer Caroline Borucki kicked off the show with her ladylike designs. High waists, belts and breezy fabrics graced the runway and made me wish it was warmer outside so I could wear them all. A freelance women’s & children’s apparel designer and studied in London and Paris, Caroline obviously brought the influences back with her.

Crystal Wells
followed and did not miss a beat. Her designs were classic color and silhouette with touches of box pleats and ruffles to spice things up as well as some open backs that made me do a double take. Crystal studied fine arts and is continuing on to study fashion at IADT in Chicago.

Tim Bergenn
wrapped up an inspirational fashion shows with his vibrant styles. Bright blues and greens with a theatrical touch had the crowd awed. After learning Tim designed the costumes for the ’07 Northeast Ballet Company’s production of The Nutcracker, I can see where his inspiration stems from. Tim is currently working freelance in Chicago designing for clients ranging from drag queens to working women and everything in between.

Those Shoes are How Much?

February 1st, 2010 by SocialStylists No comments »

It seems like just when I was getting used to seeing $700 price tags on shoes, here comes a season where $900 plus isn’t out of the ordinary. The past few years have seen a continuous push upward.

Christian Louboutin Resort 2010 $995

Will we get used to the new prices?
Is there a limit to what we will pay for amazing shoes?

I’ve asked myself these questions many times, but at $900+ I need an answer.

I’m not cheap when it comes to shoes. In fact, I love shoes. My modest collection includes Louboutins, Pradas, Choos, Ferragamos, and (my favorite shoe guy) Stuart Weizmans. (Sadly I cannot get my fat feet into Manolo Blahniks).

But are they worth it?

Here’s why I ask the question: Every so often I’ll pick up a pair of shoes for under $200. Then I will get tons of compliments on them. When I go for shoes in the $200 or so range, I usually go for something unique. I think I’ll only wear them occasionally. Then I fall completely in love and wear them as often as I can work them into outfits.

My favorite Chicago shoe boutique for unique statement shoes is City Soles and their sister Niche. For online fabulously original shoes, Kindred Soles is the spot. It’s a UK website, but they will ship to the US.

Right now I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of the affordable Mohops I ordered. If you haven’t seen these yet, you should check them out. They are the answer to the calf-laced look at the Spring 2010 Chanel show.

Meanwhile, I’ll wear a pair of $700 Ferragamos secretly hoping for a nod, and no one notices.

So when are they worth it?
Fit?
Comfort?
The detailing that stands out to only you and other fashion addicts?

Since the recession hit, I have scaled back my shoe buying.
I now use the $100 rule.
Oh no, not $100 per pair of shoes. It’s $100 per outfit the shoes go with! Justification is, after all, the cornerstone of style.

Do you have a limit?
